Getting in shape for taking a trip

For the last several years, there was no time or money to take a vacation. My wife and I were saving up for a special trip to celebrate our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. We were excited to take our first cruise ship and visit a variety of tropical islands when the pandemic began. For the next year & a half, we were stuck inside the house. Finally the restrictions eased up and we once again began preparing for our trip. The cruise line was accepting reservations. However, I realized that during the quarantine I’d managed to gain almost thirty pounds. I was not happy with myself. I knew I needed to head to the gym, get more active and lose some weight in a hurry. I wanted to be in decent physical shape and feel good about myself during the trip. When I signed up at the local fitness center, they were quick to recommend their personal fitness trainers. I am not sure if they were running specials on personal training or if they always push this aspect of the business, but I jumped on the opportunity. The trainer who consulted one-on-one with me was absolutely wonderful. We met for training sessions 2 times per week and I also attended her group class. I started with light weights at first & then gradually increased to higher weights and more reps. By the end of the first two weeks, I noticed significant improvement in how I looked and felt. During the fitness class, we focused heavily on high intensity aerobic training and stretching. At first, I was out of breath immediately. I needed to rest several times during an hour-long class. After a few weeks, I was able to make it all the way through to the end. Every private session and class was extremely demanding but so satisfying and worth it.
